Questions & answers
Is membership of the Periscope Library free?
Yes. Everything in the library is free to access, as are the diagnostic tools and there's no card needed, no trial period and no expiry.
Some of the deeper training programmes are paid, but they're clearly marked as such. If there is a charge, you'll know well before you click.
Who is the Periscope Library actually for?
The Periscope Library is for current and future Compliance and Risk leaders— CCOs, CROs, Heads of Compliance, deputies, and people building towards those roles. This is not a technical resource – there are many other places to learn technical skills. The content assumes you already know the rules and supports you in building your career and executing your role after that. In reality, while I talk mainly about “compliance” as the target audience – I believe that many professionals in different sectors in GRC related roles will find the Periscope Library useful.
Who can see my answers to the diagnostic tools?
This is a personal support resource – only you can see the results, and nobody else, including My Compliance Centre and Periscope Library staff. The tools help you to assess aspects of your skills and capability that are close to home: your own capability, your Board relationship, your firm's culture — so we designed them to be fully private.
What's the relationship between the Periscope Library and Periscope?
Periscope is our fortnightly newsletter which looks at issues relevant to compliance leaders. The Periscope Library is here, where the collateral lives permanently, for ongoing reference. You can join the library without taking the newsletter, and you can take the newsletter without ever opening the library. Most people end up doing both.
Can I use the Periscope Library for CPD?
Yes, depending on how your professional CPD works. The library will automatically add some Periscope Librariy activities to the CPD log for you and you can manually add additional CPD at any time, either from the library or somewhere else, should you want to. There is a download function if you want to take your CPD from the Library somewhere else.
And, again, this is private – no one else can see or will know what CPD you have done unless you tell them.
Who are you, the Periscope Library and My Compliance Centre?
I'm Ben Mason, the founder of My Compliance Centre, the Periscope Library, and previously the consultancy, which is now known as Cosegic. I've worked alongside compliance leaders for many years and I have come to recognise what a really challenging and at times isolating role this is. It is under-appreciated by the business, quite often under-resourced, and not particularly well supported from a career development perspective in terms of building compliance-specific leadership and management skills. So that's why I founded the Periscope Library to support compliance leaders on a personal level. That sits alongside, but from a different angle, My Compliance Centre, which supports compliance leaders that want to build out their compliance function to be more effective.
Who produces the Periscope Library content?
I do (Ben Mason) with some occasional external input from guest contributors and an internal review team. AI helps me think but the output is produced by me. Graphics are generally made by a designer, not generated.
The interactive diagnostic tools (in the 'Tools' menu) use AI to generate some of the analytical content (when you enter your career details in the settings then you can see more details on exactly how that works.)
